Manchester United Consider Thomas Tuchel as Potential Replacement for Erik ten Hag Amid Struggles

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Thomas Tuchel as a potential replacement for current manager Erik ten Hag, following the club’s disappointing start to the season. United have won just three of their 11 games and sit 14th in the Premier League, leading the club to reassess their managerial options.

Tuchel, who has been without a job since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, remains an attractive option for United due to his immediate availability. United had previously considered Tuchel during the summer when there were doubts over Ten Hag’s future. Despite expressing full backing for Ten Hag just five weeks ago, the club’s hierarchy is reportedly holding discussions about their next steps.

A meeting between top United officials is scheduled to take place in London on Tuesday, where Ten Hag’s future is expected to be a key topic. Ten Hag himself addressed the speculation after United’s goalless draw against Aston Villa, stating, “I don’t have any idea that is different because they should have told me. We communicate very openly and transparently.”

Ten Hag’s position has come under increasing pressure with United’s poor form, including just five goals scored in seven league games. The club is currently seven points behind the fourth Champions League qualifying spot, raising concerns about missing out on the competition for a second consecutive season—a situation United have not faced since 1993.

Thomas Tuchel, 51, boasts a strong managerial record, having won the Champions League with Chelsea and leading Bayern Munich to a Bundesliga title in 2023. He also has experience with Paris Saint-Germain, where he won multiple Ligue 1 titles and reached the Champions League final in 2020. His proven track record in Europe and his familiarity with the Premier League make him a strong candidate should United opt for a change.

United co-chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe has previously met with Tuchel and reportedly discussed the possibility of him taking over the reins. However, when asked by the BBC on Friday about his faith in Ten Hag, Ratcliffe declined to comment, further fueling speculation about a potential managerial change.
