Former Super Eagles defender Sam Elijah has urged Victor Osimhen to consider a transfer to Arsenal amid stalled negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Napoli.
The transfer talks have reportedly hit a deadlock due to disagreements over the deal’s terms. Sources indicate that Napoli’s demand for the inclusion of South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in in the transfer package, along with PSG’s reluctance to meet Osimhen’s release clause, has led to this impasse.
Reflecting on the situation, Sam Elijah advised Osimhen to seek new opportunities after spending four seasons with Napoli.
“Currently, nothing has been finalized, but in football, anything can still happen. I think Osimhen should move on from Napoli because of the previous challenges he has faced with the club,” Elijah said.
Elijah further suggested that a move to Arsenal would be beneficial for Osimhen’s career development. He praised Arsenal’s environment, including the club’s coaching staff led by Mikel Arteta.
“I think it is time for him to move forward. I would prefer him to move to Arsenal. It will be comfortable for him there—the environment, the players, the fans, and especially the coach.
“Arteta is a patient man who knows how to lead his team to victory. For me, Osimhen should move to Arsenal to continue his career there.”
Osimhen has been linked with a move away from Napoli since agreeing to a new contract in December 2023, which included a release clause for potential suitors. Despite significant interest from top European clubs, the Nigerian striker remains at Napoli, as no team has yet met the release clause stipulated in his contract.
The release clause, valued at approximately €120 to €130 million, remains a significant obstacle in finalizing the transfer.
